Casa da Buba kennels, owned by João Rodrigo Pinto has extensive experience breeding Portuguese Water Dogs in the Algarve. He bred the 2010 National Champion Female Working Class Portuguese Water Dog and also participates in local dog shows.

After World War ll there were only a few dozen Portuguese Water dogs in Portugal. The breed would have been extinct by now, if it would not have been for an Amercian lover of the breed of Portuguese Water Dogs who introduced the breed to the USA.

From there many Portuguese Water Dogs found their way back to Portugal, and laid the foundations of a new breeding stock and blood line.

Portuguese Water Dogs, particularly in the Algarve are treasured more so here than in the rest of Portugal due to the Algarve's traditional fishing industry. Once on the brink of extinction, Portuguese Water Dogs, companions of Algarve fishermen have been welcomed through the generations on their fishing boats as part of of the crew.

João and his team are renowned not only for their successful breeding but their ability to educate clients about this National breed and how to look after them well.
